About
Rob raymond
australian landscape artist
Rob Raymond was born in suburban Brisbane in 1951 where, as a young man, he was interested in sport as well as art, representing his school at the elite level in gymnastics and other sports. He trained as a secondary art teacher at Kelvin Grove College of Advanced Education where his creative talents were honed by instruction from teachers, William Robinson and Betty Churcher. After graduating in 1972 he commenced a long and distinguished career as an educator in both art and Senior Schooling education on the Darling Downs receiving a National Excellence in Teaching Award for his contributions.
Rob’s interest in art was fostered from an early age by his mother, Margaret Raymond (nee Fullgrabe) an artist of note in her own right and his father, Phil, a builder and potter.
Rob has always drawn on his immediate environment for his subject matter. Initially his works concentrated on the subtly ever-changing cultivated landscapes of the Darling Downs. Following his purchase of a property on the Granite Belt, his landscapes evolved to explore the ancient rock-strewn landscapes of this picturesque region.
Currently, Rob and his wife, Dot, are full-time residents on the mountainous escarpment of the Great Dividing Range near Toowoomba, sharing their time between both locations while he continues his exploration of the subtleties of landscape.
In 2013, Rob retired from his teaching roles to concentrate on painting full-time.
